Sharepoint
NMDS sells and implements Sharepoint from Microsoft.
Sharepoint is typically used to provide an internal
corporate portal which is just a a fancy name
for a website. This internal website, or 'Intranet',
provides a centralized place to share company
documents (version controlled), financial or
production metrics, schedules, graphics, or
other electronic files. The internal website
can also be used for announcements and task
tracking and made available to remote users
if desired. This is a very powerful tool for
any business but especially one with a geographically
dispersed team or with members working from
home offices.
A more advanced use of Sharepoint can be to
provide a management dashboard of Key Performance
Indicators (KPI's) or any other summary of information
for any role of user. If it can be displayed
in a browser, it can be displayed in Sharepoint
to who you want to see it. In Sharepoint it
is easy to breakdown the availability to view
and edit this information as well as restrict
its use.
A very useful way to use Sharepoint is as a
searchable repository of documents.
